This is actually an earlier die state of the same variety displayed at HBCC-3077. An exceptional Mint-State example is displayed from the Bass Collection. The difficulties in attribution of varieties bearing this date provide a prelude to the next several years and numerous difficulties determining which varieties exist. Harry Bass carefully studied these varieties and provided considerable groundwork for future researchers.

"Obverse: 2 over 1, the 1 is to left of center under the 2, and thin. 1 lacks its top serif. Clashed thru date. Reverse: No crack at UNI or TE(D). Not lapped, which will later weaken the lowest arrow. Not clashed."
