This pattern presents the transitional eagle of the design introduced to regular coinage the following year. Possibly as many as ten examples are known. Although specific earlier pedigrees are not available, it is entirely possible that three copper patterns, numbers 6058, 6059, and 6060 have been kept together since the 19th century. All three were acquired by Harry Bass from the same sale, with the half eagle and double eagle acquired by the New Netherlands consignor directly from the 1942 ANA Convention sale. This eagle pattern is very similar in appearance to the others.

Provenance:
F.C.C. Boyd; Sol Kaplan, November 1946; New Netherlands 61st Sale, June 1970, Lot 19, apparently via Julian Leidman.
Obverse:
Regular-issue die of the date.
Reverse:
Very similar to the regular-issue die of the date, but with IN GOD WE TRUST on a ribbon above the eagle.
Commentary:
"Paid Leidman 5%??"
